How To Know if You Need Foundation Repair?

How To Know If You Need Foundation Repair

At KC Pier, we receive calls regularly from homeowners who are unsure if they are dealing with a foundation problem.

Figuring out if you have foundation issues can be tricky. While there are some obvious signs of a problem, such as water in your basement, cracks in the wall that are leaking, and leaning and bowing walls, there are more subtle hints of issues, too.

Some of the other possible signs of a problem with your home’s foundation that are not as obvious because they don’t show up in the physical structure include:

  • Windows that stick
  • Doors that stick
  • Windows and doors that are hard to close
  • Windows and doors that try to remain open or closed

If you believe your house has begun to settle or that there are other foundation issues, you may experience one, a few, or all of the obvious and subtle problems above.

One way to tell if the foundation is the problem is to look inside the corners of your windows and door jambs to see if there are signs of physical cracks in the sheetrock or in the mortar on the bricks outside of your home. Each of these is an indication of a foundation problem.
